STACguard for Steam Generation

Steam generation air emission monitoring, simplified

Master compliance and improve boiler efficiency with STACguard, the web-based data acquisition and handling system (DAHS) that turns your continuous emissions monitoring system into a tool for proactive control.

The challenge

The operational tightrope

Effective steam generation air emission monitoring is critical, because operational problems quickly become compliance problems.

Operational balance

Plant managers constantly balance maximizing steam output, controlling fuel costs and keeping boilers online.

Regulatory maze

EHS officers must navigate complex EPA regulations. Maintaining compliance with strict pollutant limits is demanding and non-negotiable.

The vicious cycle

Suboptimal combustion raises fuel costs and emissions at the same time, creating a reactive loop of budget overruns and emission spikes.

How it works

The STACguard solution for boiler emissions

A complete monitoring chain, from the stack to the compliance report, with STACguard at its core.

1

Sample extraction and conditioning

In a typical extractive CEMS, a durable probe and heated lines draw a representative gas sample from the flue, preventing condensation and loss of compounds before analysis.

2

Gas analyzers

Analyzers measure NOx, SO2, CO and O2 using technologies such as NDIR and chemiluminescence. STACguard communicates with them directly via digital or analog signals.

3

STACguard: the DAHS

The data acquisition and handling system is the brain of the CEMS. STACguard logs every reading, calculates averages against your limits, raises alarms and generates compliance reports.

Return on investment

Turn a cost center into a strategic asset

Emissions monitoring is required either way. STACguard makes it pay back by giving operators the continuous combustion and emissions data they need to break the vicious cycle: tune for efficient combustion, and fuel use and emissions come down together.

  • Live data and trends from any browser, including phones and tablets
  • Predictive rolling averages to stay ahead of permit limits
  • Email alarms for calibration failures and threshold approaches
  • Remote calibration triggers and instrument troubleshooting

Typical system configuration

Reliability by design

Hardware and reporting are configured for each site. This is a typical STACguard configuration for a steam generation facility.

Monitored parametersNOx, SO2, CO, CO2, O2, opacity, flow
Data logging1-minute averages, configurable averaging periods
EPA programs40 CFR Part 60 (Subparts Db, Dc) and Part 75
QA/QC proceduresAutomated daily calibrations; semi-automated RATA prompts
Data outputModbus, OPC-UA, 4-20 mA; secure web-based access

Parameters, analyzers and outputs vary by permit and site. We confirm the configuration during your consultation.

Your partner in clean steam

Set up right from the start

We work with expert partners and consultants in air monitoring and compliance to make sure STACguard is configured correctly for your boilers and your permit from day one, so your data and reports are right from the first hour of operation.

  • Frictionless integration. Flexible data outputs connect to your existing DCS.
  • Future-proof platform. A scalable design that adapts as regulations evolve, with limits and reports changed without programming.
  • Configured correctly from the start. Our partners and consultants help set up parameters, averaging periods, limits and reports around your specific permit requirements.

Steam generation monitoring FAQ

The data acquisition and handling system (DAHS) is the part of a CEMS that records analyzer data, calculates averages, tracks calibrations and produces compliance reports. STACguard is a web-based DAHS.

STACguard is typically configured for 40 CFR Part 60 Subparts Db and Dc and for Part 75, with parameters, averaging periods and reports set up around your specific permit.

Daily calibrations can be automated and scheduled, with alarms and email notifications if a calibration fails. STACguard also provides semi-automated prompts to help your team prepare for relative accuracy test audits (RATAs).

Yes. Typical outputs include Modbus, OPC-UA and 4-20 mA signals for your DCS, plus secure web-based access for users.
